All three major teams of Pittsburgh, Steelers, Pirates, Penguins. all have the same color scheme of black and gold (yellow?) I was wondering if the colors represent something about the city or something else?|||the pirates and steelers always had those colors...in the late 70s, the pirates won the world series and the steelers were in the superbowl. in honor of those teams, the penguins changed their colors to black and gold for the remainder of that season. but everyone liked it, so they stuck with the black and gold.
now they are they only city where all their professional teams have the same colors. i think it's pretty cool.|||Pittsburgh's flag is black and gold, and the Steele's first uniform had the flags symbol and colors, the pirates also changed there colors. This was years before any super bowls and years after the pirates were in the first world series in 1903. The pirates original colors were blue and red.

|||I live in Pittsburgh, it has to do with the fact that Pittsburgh was a major steel city and black and gold/yellow have to do with the colors of steel when it is being made. Does that make any sense?|||My guess is its kind of a tough looking color. Pittsburgh used to be the steel city & have lots of hard working people in the steel industry.|||We rock, we roll, were sold gold!!!!GO Pens... GO Pirates... GO Steelers.....|||the guys above me have answered it enough....the STEEL city!!!! woo-hooo!!!!!
