The whole city of Pittsburgh, should be ashamed on how they laid down and blew leads against the Phillies. The city should be ashamed on how they get rid of good players. Ever since they gotten rid of Barry Bonds, they haven't been nothing.|||The Pirates are the worst run organization in baseball. There are no mitigating circumstances. There ability to suck is unique in its enormity. Last night's game was nothing that hasn't been seen before.|||In their defense, they are the Pittsburgh Pirates.|||The city of Pittsburgh does not OWN the Pirates. If anyone should be embarrassed by the Pirates, it should be the Pirates themselves. Saturday's game was the absolute worst managed game I have ever seen. If Manager John Russell had any dignity, he would have resigned immediately following the game. To leave your closer in and have him surrender 5 runs in the 9th inning is just plain stupid! I think Russell threw these games, since he is a former Phillies minor league manager and wants to see them back in the Series. Also he will be out of a job soon and will need some references from the Phils.|||Their fans don't support them, 'cuz they're busy supporting the Steelers.|||Nothing to be embarrassed about since their team is just not as good as the Phillies. The Pirates are eleven games under .500 ball right now which is just where most fans thought they would be at this time. If Pirates fans are looking for something to be embarrassed about they need to look no further than Pirates management who have not been willing to spend some money on players to field a winning team for their fans.|||they should be disappointed, but not ashamed, 1st of all it's only 1 game, 2nd of all, ther not a good team and wont make the playoffs either way.|||After last's nights game, the only player i'm angry at is matt Capps. But then again, he's had many games like that this year. I wonder why they brought him in with a 4 run lead (shame :()
Did you see Garret Jones' performance and jack Wilson's spectactular catch?|||I've been saying the same thing for years. Baseball is a business and you have to look at how the competition is doing to change your way of doing things. The Phillies are in the same state as the Pirates. If the Phillies could turn around their franchise and win it all then the Pirates must do the same. The new owners of the Pirates have no direction nor sense of urgency when it comes to winning. The Pirates have no excuse why they have not been in the Playoffs since 1992. This link wraps it up very well:
http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/pfx/forum.as鈥?/a>|||They should be embarassed period.|||I think not. Regardless on how they play, the players are laughing all the way to the bank while the baseball fans keep being suckers and paying the ticket prices.|||The Pirates are a charter franchise in the National League. Meaning, they were one of the original teams when the National League was first formed way back when.
The Pirates are a storied franchise, and there is a lot of history over the years. Therefore, they need to be treated with the proper respect; and it sure doesn't seem that their current ownership really cares, nor gives them the respect they deserve.
The Pirates have had many star players over the years. From Roberto Clemente, and others, the list goes on and on. However, over the last many years, the Pirates have quite frankly sucked.
Also, most people in Pittsburgh really don't care. They live and breathe over what happens to the Pittsburgh Steelers every week in the NFL in the quest for another Super Bowl victory. The Pirates have always played second fiddle to the Steelers in that regard. Then the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins have always brought up the rear in the terms of community interest. Sure, they've been perennial Stanley Cup contenders and won the Cup this year; but the Penguins almost left town, until the deal finally got done to get them a new arena. Had the Penguins bolted to say, Kansas City, I doubt anyone would have cared (other than for the hard-core hockey fans, of course).
As far as the Pirates go, there are many different things that need to change. Pronto. Number one, the Pirates front office needs to roll its sleeves up and convince the ownership to get off the checkbook to sign some decent players. Perhaps a free agent pickup or two. Anything to make the team better. The people of Pittsburgh and the region there of western Pennsylvania really need to start caring about the Pirates.
The Pirates have a long term lease at PNC Park, so they're not going anywhere anytime soon. So, they're in no danger of pulling up stakes and moving to another city. I doubt MLB would allow one of its charter franchises to make such a move anyway.
The Pirates somehow have to do something to get the people to care.|||One title in three decades.
Two in one year.
Yeah we are real ashamed of our sports teams.
