Hi I am looking to go and visit a friend in Pittsburgh does anyone know when is the cheapest time of year to fly and who would be cheapest to fly with?|||You should avoid all school and public holidays at your departure and arrival points. All airlines uplift their prices at these times.

Purchase your ticket as far in advance as possible. Most airlines release their cheapest tickets about ten months prior to departure (you need to consider the return flight here) and as these sell out more are released at a higher price.

Use the comparison sites that another answer has given to find options, then check the price and schedule on the airline's own website as these could be cheaper.

Just a note about schedule. Be aware that the cheapest ticket may have an horrendous schedule taking more changes of plane and hours of your time, not to mention inconvenience, than you really want.|||Avoid Christmas time and early January, after this time the price line is pretty much the same year round. Also book no later than a week in advance of your chosen travel date, booking a seat a matter of days before makes prices jump up.|||Avoid traveling to the US during holidays, such as Memorial Day, Labor Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years. Usually, spring (March, April) tends to be the cheapest. For cheap tickets, try:
Hotwire.com
Expedia.com
Travelocity.com
Bing.com/travel
Priceline.com
Kayak.com

Have a great trip!|||I'd have to say March/April, around spring break time. A good friend of mine travels to the UK every spring around that time because of the low rates (from NY/NY area).

I hope that helped!

Oops, forgot the airline -- She used British Airways or Virgin.|||cheapest time
