My girlfriend is moving from San Francisco to Pittsburgh. She is driving her car cross-country, but we need to find the most efficient way to transport her larger belongings. I already found a couple of good ideas, but I thought I'd ask the Yahoo! Answers community if they had any suggestions. Thanks!|||I moved from the deep south to the wild west, so I know what y'all are feeling. With gas as high as it is, it will only get worse as time goes by. We used a moving company called ABF. You pack it up in a pod and they put it on a truck and haul it to the destination. I moved 2700 miles and it costed me $967.00. They did all the transportation. I would check into them and they will even quote you.

If you are looking for a cheaper way, i would rent one of those budget rental trucks and drive across country. You can pick it up in SF and drop in right in PGH. Plus, you can stop at any interesting sights along the way.
If you have any questions about Pittsburgh, i live there, so feel free to email me with anything you need to know about the city.|||well, there's always the airplane or something but its not efficient at all. other common ideas would be a moving company -- i worked at one for a bit, and i can tell you its not too cheap and there's a pretty large chance you'll have some of your things broken or scratched. if you do go tohat way, i'd recommend having them pack for yuo -- that way they have more responsibility, and the good ones will cover you on certain things if they were the ones who packed. find people who have a storage space too, so you won't be stuck doing that. look into it, and try to shop around as much as you can and also bargain/negotiate. another idea, though im not sure it'll work, is trains. you'd have a limit on how much you can bring, though, and they are not too cheap. greyhound is also available, but again you need to be there with the stuff and you'll never be sure on who you have to ride with (there was a report aobut a yr ago that after prison people were given greyhound tickets to get home...). honestly, i'd stick to a moving company, especially since its larger belongings... :) good luck.
