I'm going to be moving to Pittsburgh soon and I wanted to know what neighboorhoods to avoid.|||I would suggest staying in a suburb and not in the city then you can avoid city taxes. It would be easier to tell you were to stay...try the south hills (Baldwin, Brentood, Mt. Lebanon, Upper St. Clair - the last two are more expensive). The North Hills is good too (North Hills, McCandless, Allison Park). If you have kids, the best school district is North Allegheny but they have high taxes in that area. The South Side is a good area if you are into the bar scene.|||Upper St Claire is nice, or atleast it was back when I lived there.

There are 2 nearby towns called Moon and Mars.. seriously!

Giant Eagle is a great grocery store!!! Inside of it, they have a place called "Eagles Nest" where you can drop of your kids while you shop. Kids love it.

Pittsburgh is awesome, and I miss it alot.|||I have an Aunt that lives in Carnegie (sp?) it is a suburb, and it is beautiful over there!|||Shady Side or Squirrel Hill|||Without a doubt, the best place to live in Sh*tsburgh is Mount Washington. The view of the city is phenomenal, and you can walk to some of the best restaurants in the city.|||I'm a "city" girl so if you want to live within the confines of the city, I'd recommend Bloomfield, Squirrel Hill, or Lawrenceville, especially if you are twenty-something (or 20-30 something for Sq. Hill). They are city neighborhoods that have a main street with a grocery store, restaurants, bars, and things like a dry cleaners.

All of these neighborhoods have affordable rent and real estate. I'd recommend going to Pittsburgh's Craigslist to see available rentals.

Good luck!
