Okay, I live in the Pittburgh area (Beaver County), but why does Pittsburgh not really get a good, healthy 6+ inches of snow during the winter for one storm? I noticed that we only get around 3 inches for one storm. Why? This storm now is really good, about 8 inches of snow going to fall here, but we barely ever get this much in the winter for one snowstorm.|||For the last 20 or so years there have been above average temperatures recorded in the NE America so there hasn't traditionally been much snow (within the last decade or so).
Combined with the fact that you do not live near a large enough water source (Lake Erie for example) to get the lake effect snow (which is commonly much more than normal) you resort to catching the end of a storm front that has picked up water from the great lakes.
