I am looking for a Saturday to kill in Pittsburgh in late february or march and I was wondering, Pittsburgh-natives, what are some activities I can do as a teenager to enjoy myself in the Pittsburgh area. Are there any cool traditions that go on in Pittsburgh during March? Thanks|||The most important thing to do is try to AVOID the smog & pollution. It is unbelievable how much crap is spewed into the air here, it is so dense that it travels all the way to the Eastern States and kills and destroys much of their forests and habitat. Acid rain has been a problem there for years but now it is known that most all freshwater fish from natural streams in the Northeast USA are polluted from mercury, so much so that kids and women shouldn't eat any of it and it is suggested that healthy adult males avoid it as well.
YES, it comes from the plants in the Pittsburgh area pumping their putrid black smoke into our atmosphere.
Additionally, Pittsburgh drinking water supplies have been contaminated with benzene, toluene, vinyl chloride and 22 other chemicals reportedly leached from Dow Chemical plants here. Pittsburg is a TOXIC HOTSPOT! Just type 'Pittsburg pollution' or similar in your browser and see what crops up, it truly is amazing.
Good luck and try to stay healthy|||i live in PGH and i would deff recommend the St. Patty's day parade by market square

|||dear ahole who answered... i know that this is what you learned in your 3rd grade geography book and about steel mills etc but Pittsburgh has come a long way. I have lived in and around this city my while life and there have been drastic measures taken to clean up this city since the 1930'sReport Abuse
|||when white homes were grey or even black from the smog. i have traveled the world and i can honestly say that my city is one of the cleanest major cities in the US. Check your facts... and yes you can type in "pgh pollution" in and get hits but you can also type in global cooling or global warmingReport Abuse
|||and get facts from both sides. when you see something for yourself, fine. As for the h2o supply i have never heard of a problem or gotten sick from it and do not know anyone who has. i know the 3 rivers are terribly dirty but the h2o is dirty when it flows to Pittsburgh but am i pointing fingers?Report Abuse
