Its a 19 hour drive and very cold in Pittsburgh, Birds cannot get cold or they will die. How do I safely get my birds to Florida? How do I get cages to transport them? Is there a company that does this type of thing? The birds are my babies and Im terrified to move them.|||They would probably prefer to go with you instead of being shipped or handled by strangers. And you would be surprised to find that they can handle colder weather than you would think. The first general rule is that if the temperature is okay for you then it's probably okay for them. The second general rule is that a quick change in temperature is more likely to be harmful than a gradual temperature change. Here's a good link to a discussion thread at The Perch ( http://www.theperch.net/discussion/showt鈥?/a> ) that you might find useful.
Here are a couple articles that you might find useful.

make a good thick cover for the carriers, make sure the car is warm before you take them out to it and they should be fine.
birds are amzingly cold tollerant, even parrots. and if you dont believe me google the quaker parrot colonly that lives in Duluth, MN. a short 10 seconds in the cold wont kill them.|||You might contact a breeder of rare birds because they air freight them all over the country. I know our local bird store is always going out to pick up little babies. There is probably a certain container to put them in. I like the answer right before me also I didn't realize they had a company that did this. If price is an option I would consider taking them in their traveling cages and just make sure the car is warm. I don't have time to research this now. I know I was considering taking my CAG on vacation because we were going for a month, I just haven't done my research yet.|||My best friend owns his own moving company and lives in Florida. I can give you his name and email address if you like. Just put them in pet carriers. I had a blue and gold mccaw and a cockatoo(the brother to the one I have now) they when to the vets in pet carriers all the time. I'm assuming that you've never had to take them to a vet or else you would have pet carriers for them. If not need to buy some. Please contact me if you need my friends help.|||Petflight is an organization that can help you as I'm sure there are others. Each area seems to have their own local representative. Found them invaluable helping my friend move her dog from North American to Asia. They know all the annoying trick of the trade and who to talk to etc. Can be pricey but so can losing a family member.
