I've never seen so many horrible calls in one game. At times it seemed they were deliberately trying to tone down the Pittsburgh defense. If I were James Harrison, I might seriously think about retirement. It seems if he even breathes crooked he draws a flag, and he's by no means a dirty or arrogant player. He plays extremely hard on every play. Just curious about other people's opinion...Thanks!!|||@ Steeler Blow, The thing is you don't watch every Steelers game week in and week out like the Steelers fans do.
You see an occassional game here and there or a highlight reel and if there is a controversial call that goes Pittsburgh's way by the letter of the law you assume all the calls go their way all the time.
If the Steelers have the Refs in their pocket then why haven't they won the last 5 Super Bowls?
Just 2 weeks ago the NFL apologized to the Steelers for two 4th quarter blown calls that allowed Cincy back in the game.
You bring up the Dolphins fumble this year. Guess What?
There really wasn't any clear evidence who recoverd the ball and the rule cleary states that the benefit of the doubt goes to the offense. If you don't like the rule then watch another sport.
I guess you forgot about Polamalu's int vs the Colts in 2005 playofs whe he had clear possession and basically won the game but the ref overturned a call by using an explanation he made up on the field that the next business day the NFL apologized for.
Then in 2007 David Garrad in a playoff game ran for a first down on 4th down that set up a game winning FG and Harrison had the play stopped but was tackled and no hold was called and the NFL apologized that week as well.
Your link to SB XL means nothing. The NFL head of officials at the time of SB XL stated again that the holding call on Lockleer in the 4th quarter was a hold and doesn't know why Leavy is cahnging his mind now. The Steelers LB was "Hooked" to the ground once he had the O Tackle beaten around the edge. Even Warren Moon of Seattle local radio agreed that they will call it everytime.
James Harrison is held almost every play and it gets called maybe once a game if we are lucky.
He's not dirty he just brings it all day and then O lineman and receivers cry because he catches them off gaurd when they get lazy.
Kiss the SIX!
It was the first time that I ever watched a game where I wondered if the Refs were really trying to aid the other team.
The Roughing the Passer call on Lamar Woodley when he barely toucched Campbell and then let up with his hands in the air and the ref still threw the flag.
The same call on James Harrison when he wrapped Campbell up at the waist and drove forward to make a tackle for a sack and they called it for driving the QB to the ground.
Then Ryan Clark leads with his shoulder to the back of a WR and they call him for helmet to helmet.
Then they call Ike Taylor for Pass Interference when he was stride for stride with the WR who ran his route too close to the sideline an stepped out.
Then they called a hold on a Steelers O lineman on a run when the Raider D lineman was taken out by his own team mate.
Then they called another hold that was way after the Steelers runner was around the corner and away from the infraction. That one was a hold but one that could have easily been over looked since it had no impat on the result of the play.
Oh well, guess what? The Steelers beat the Raiders and the Refs today.
It's just too bad Lebeau was senile during the Pats game and didn't press the WRs at the line and mix blitz packages like he did today. Instead he let Brady sit in the pocket all day while the DBs and LBs layed off 5 to 8 yds all night.|||Well, the fans of the other 31 teams will think we are just crying but that was one of the worst called games I have ever seen. I have a feeling James will get suspended and NOTHING will be done with Seymor just like the hit on Hines last week. It was an extremely flag happy game with a lot of phantom calls. Clark better note get fined for the helmet to BACK hit that was called helmet to helmet. I do find it hilarious there were over 150 penalty yards on the Steelers called and the Raiders only got to field goal position ONCE on the opening drive.
Also you KNOW it was bad when the announcers were saying how bad the calls were. They will probably get fined also, LOL.|||http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Super-Bowl-XL-head-official-admits-to-blown-call?urn=nfl-260901
I find it VERY ironic that Steeler fans seem to be having a fit today with refs...this is the first game in the past 5 years I can remember that the Steelers didn't get every break and seem to have the refs in their pockets...need we bring up the obvious fumble against the Dolphins...
The refs aren't trying to tone the Steelers down...maybe if the Steelers would start tackling guys instead of throwing their entire bodies at another player they wouldn't get all these flags...
And yes Harrison is a very very dirty player....don't let your bias towards being a Steelers fan blind you to that fact|||It was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay worse at the Detroit-Dallas game.|||A travesty.|||It's the same as it's been all year: Mediocre.|||Steelers won, with way more penalty yards, nuff said.
