There are little brown mud things hanging from my floor joist and flying ants around the light above my washer, are these termites? The one guy I called said $1000-$1500 to treat it. My neighbor had them and he called that big company and he paid big bucks and still has them. I live in the Pittsburgh area who should I call? Can I treat them myself?|||Go with a name you can trust and will guarantee their service.
Someone like Terminex. It'll probably be a little more expensive, but you can be sure they get rid of the bugs.|||I'm using a local company with good referrals. I think Thomas B. had a good answer. I used the guy I found in the Myspace classifieds, Thanks me1965. (Horrible answer EKO, national companies suck.)

|||Your right. I know alot of people that used that national company and had to call someone else. National is the worst way to go. National companies have high employee turnover. I had to pay twice too.Report Abuse

You can't treat it yourself.I used a guy my wife found in the myspace classifieds. I haven't had a problem since. Very happy with the service and price.|||I would use a large company with guarantees so that in the future you can get them back out to complete the job, it will take many trips over the yrs. to make sure they don't come back, they even have pay plans like a bank loan.|||Tough one... Big companies will have money to back damages, that's if you are buying a termite guarantee, which is basically like a termite insurance policy. But, I have worked with the two biggest companies and personally I think you get better service at other locations.
Look for BBB reports, and a termidor certificate.|||Call a good national company that guarantees their work before you lose your foundation|||i bet the flying things are flying ants not termites. your washer is in the garage and the light is not yellow but a standard lightbulb?????? the bug is possible reddish color with wings, the wings are not even but different sized from back compared to front. i thought the same thing til i went online and investigated. i went into google.com and typed in the difference between termites and flying ants. one bug has a body that is sectioned with 2 or 3 seperate sections the other does not. change the light bulb, they go away. brown mud thing sound like mud dobbers. get rid of the mud.
