I've been looking for a good clothing store in Pittsburgh but not found any yet.
My favorite brands are Tsumorichisato(a Japanese one), Agnes b, Paul Smith, etc. Generally speaking I like uni-sexual clothes and I'm wearing both male and female ones though I'm a man in fact.
Do you know a shop you think I'll like?|||螜 don't know. Sorry :(
I'm doing an article on sports figures in Pittsburgh. On the bad role-models I only have Roethlistberger. ON the good role-model side I have Sidney Crosby, Ward, and Palamalu. Is there anyone else you can think of?|||If you go old school Roberto Clemente is considered one of the most famous sports role models (not only in the 'Burgh) and really, a true hero.
Also Mario Lemieux is considered a role model because even though he's Canadian he's devoted his postPenguin life to the Penguins, becoming an owner in order to keep them in Pittsburgh. He had cancer and really terrible back trouble during his playing career and always came back to play. Read up on him; I think you'll find alot there you can use.
Edit: Ward is NOT known as a good role model by people in the know in Pittsburgh.|||Do they have to be current players? Roberto Clemente was one of the greatest role models Pittsburgh ever had:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roberto_Cle鈥?/a>
EDIT:
Ralph Kiner:
http://www.ralphkiner.com/index.htm
The man only played for seven years, most of them with Pittsburgh, and yet still made the Hall Of Fame. A nice, decent man, really old school.|||Hines Ward is not a good role model. He is a dirty player, youtube him and some of the things he has done, please take him off of your good role model list.|||Ward and Clemente (Palamalu maybe)|||he's retired in hockey, but you could put Mario Lemuix in there
I am organizing a dance benefit to raise money for the Children's Village in Karmiel, Israel. The benefit will be held in Pittsburgh, PA and I wanted to know what places would be good venues for the event?|||Even the small hotels like Best Western and Days Inn have conference rooms and ballrooms which are perfect for a benefit. The large Hiltons have magnificent rooms. They might give you a great rate if you don't choose their busiest night.
If the event is smaller, a synagogue would have a room for you and you might have to pay nothing. The Elks Club has dance halls which have fully stocked bars..
Hey, I'm a teenager who loves getting athletes autographs or any other famous people. Does anybody know where I could get any autographs around Pittsburgh? Any things special happening? any signings going on? Even if it's not until summer I'd sitll like to know.
Thank You!|||Steel City Con several times a year at Monroeville Convention Center. Next one is July 29, 30, 31.|||Wait until the lockout is over and get the Steelers. If you really want a pirate go for McCutchion. Get CF seats or wait til the Phillies come to town.
Does anyone know where I can get cheap Lady Gaga tickets for her performance in either Pittsburgh or Clevleland?? I dont want to spend more than $115. Please help.|||Here is a link the cheapist one is $105 hope it helps!

What exactly do you think of the Pittsburgh Penguins?|||Young and crazy talented|||I think the Pens are a great team with a lot of great young talent. People always talk crap about Crosby, but he's really, really young, and regardless of what people say, he's one of the best players in the league. Along with other youngsters like Malkin, and the veteran guys like Bill Guerin, they're a solid team, top to bottom. And I definitely think they're a championship caliber team.|||They are a real good team who have a whole lot of good players, 2 of them definatly amoung the top 10 in the world. They just seem to think that anything they do is ok, and anything the other team or its fans do is unsportsmanlike or cheating, even to the point of complaining when fans throw hats on the ice after a hat trick!!!,
after that knee to knee hit that I really think is about 50-50 being intentional last nite, can not help think of all the whining when OV hit Gonshar in an obvious accident.
Guess summed up for such a good team they lack the class of a Detroit, Crosby does not lose, he is either screwed by the refs or the other team cheated,(remember him and Zutterburg last year, Zutterburg is dirty and a cheat, yea, right!!!) Rather than work through the tough times and take their lumps, they complain and think they are entitled, SPOILED ROTTEN.
Having said that, Live in VIrginia beach, and since Ovechkin I get to about 20 Caps games a year even though the blackhawks still have my heart, looking forward to the next 10 years of cap-penguins, as long as the stars stay healthy it is going to be yankees- red sox, and redskin=cowboy like!!!
At game 1 this year a guy up in the nose bleeds had a huge poster of Crosby in drag and with makeup, he would be a georgeous chick!!!|||They're exceptionally talented and have brought more enthusiasm for hockey to Pittsburgh over the last couple years than there has ever been before. They are the "model franchise in the league". Overall they play great and with honesty & integrity. They have given fans reason to believe in their team no matter the odds. Their faith and support has become unconditional.
With this team, Mario, Bugsy, Army, & a few others back I think we'd have the All Time Pens Team. But what we got is pretty close!|||They are showing more discipline and energy under Bylsma. I think since last years Cup run they have learned from Detroit alot about playing as a unit. And like Detroit's star players, Crosby and Malkin work hard at both ends. They should get to the Finals.
I just hope they are not the second best team in the league again this year. Go Pens!|||I think that the pens are going to be matched up with the Wings again but i dont think they are experienced enough just yet. I also thin that they know what the Wings are made of and i think the cup is going to pittsbugh this year.|||Well you say Pittsburgh knows what the Wings are made of. Wouldn't that mean the Wings know what the Pens are made of? I think its going to be these two teams unless Pittsburgh lose to Carolina on Thursday.Im pulling for the Wings though! Go Wings!!!|||They have great offensive power, no doubt. But defense and goaltending are a little above average. To me the Pens appear to be a bunch of really outstanding individual players, rather and a complete outstanding team.|||I personally don't like the Penguins, but they are a young team with exceptional talent. Crosby is easily one of the best players in the NHL and he's a great leader too.|||Well, Lets see.... Umm.. Their crosby can kick the crap out of ovechkin, um.... and he makes "Eight the great" look like a @$#%^$ and they are going to win the stanley cup because they rock.... and they have the next Gretsky on their team!!!! GO PENS!!!!!!!!!!!!|||Born and raised a fan. Will die a fan, too.
I think this years team, overall is better than the Stanley Cup Finals team from last year. If they win, they will certainly be regarded as one of the best.|||CROSBY IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA
I find it hilarious that people on here have such hateful things to say about a 21 yr old...in fact most of the hate is coming from people old enough to be his father! Pathetic....
The Pens...well they are okay|||Great hockey team. Crosby is a great leader and his having a tremendous post-season. As well as solid defense in Gonchar, and Letang. THEY'RE GOING ALL THE WAY|||I exactly like them however they are going to have to play better in this years finals against the Redwings if they want that cup. I think they will!|||their a good young team but highly overrated.|||I think they beat the Capitals and the Flyers in this years playoffs (my 2 most hated teams) so go pens!|||We have a stronger team than last year. Let's Go Pens!!!!!|||they are amazing have the best player in the world (crosby) and going to win the cup|||I think they are an excellent team that has not quite reached the top of their game. Close, but.......|||I think they are a strong team, and with the right talent they can go really far! Go Pens!|||They were great with Mario Lemieux, right now? they suck|||B*tches...|||ON FIRE!!!!|||strong team strong players great scoring ability going all the way!
LETS GO PENS|||i think it looks like they may be my last hope that the wings wont be winning 2 times in a row!|||Crosby is a disgrace to the team|||sorry never heard of them

I saw footage of the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates today. The players wore hats that were black with stripes. Some hats had a single star while others had many stars. what do the stars represent?|||They were called "Stargell Stars", and were given out by Willie Stargell to teammates when they made a good play or got a key hit.|||"Pops" passed out the stars after each game. The 1979 Pirates were a great team.
They were struggling as of late and Mark Sanchez led them into Pittsburgh with a 2 game losing streak. Brad Smith started the game off with a bang and the Jets never looked back. Can't really say the defense did too good yesterday but they did come up big when it mattered most. Going into Pittsburgh in the cold and snow, they made a big statement to all their skeptics, in my opinion at least. I'd like to hear any opinions you all have.|||Absolutely. They lose that one and I think they are mentally out of it. That will be a big confidence booster for them. Does it mean they are back to early season form - absolutely not but it does go a long way in the right direction. I think its like a baseball player getting out of a slump - time will tell if they will get going again but they sure needed that one to wake up.
As far as proving the skeptics wrong - I doubt it. I also doubt Pittsburgh is too shook up. I think everything good that happened yesterday is internally with the Jets. I don't expect reverberation or ripple effect through the league which is good for them. They need to get their internal confidence back and fly under the radar for once - that is when they excel. They need to stay out of the spotlight and be quiet now...yes even Rex!|||Yeah that was a tough win, but a win is a win in december. Probably see the Ravens in the playoffs, get past them, and New England, and they may see my Eagles in the Super Bowl.|||mark sanchez sucks. simply put. he won't match up with the rest of the team for at least another 2 years, and by then the rest of the team will suck. jets suck. thank u for reading.|||I actually dont like either teams, but is nice seeing that the cheatsteelrs got served|||They made a HUGE statement. Pitt gave up the safety and that was their biggest mistake....|||No, they will lose in round 2 of the playoffs.|||I LOVE seeing football in the snow!! AWESOMENESS!! q:|||Of course after what happened against Miami!|||Not really, sorry.|||IT MEANS THE YARE A GOOD TEAM|||I sure believe they did.|||Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!|||ahhh haaaaaaaa enuf said|||Two teams that I really hate. I wish they had both killed each other.

My girlfriend used to eat a lot of sl氓ttebr酶d during her stay in Norway, now that she's back in the states she hasn't been able to find a store selling it anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find a store that sells it around Pittsburgh? It's highly preferred to buy it somewhere over making it.|||i like bread
I am having trouble determining if I should move to Pittsburgh PA or Toronto Canada. I like both places but Pittsburgh is closer to where I live to I could see my family. And I like Canda because I think it would be cool to live in another country. So could someone please tell me the positive and negative things about both places, and where I should move! Thanks!!
PS- I want to become a LPN, so which one would also be better for me?|||I am unaware of the differences by country as far as wages and working conditions for a practical nurse, but I do know that moving to Canada can be a hectic experience. I myself (going into audiology) was interested in moving to Canada as well, but decided not to do so because of the complexities and base costs of being even a U.S. to Canada immigrant.
Here are some web resources to check out.
http://www.workingincanada.gc.ca/content鈥?/a>
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/i鈥?/a>
Best of luck! Hope you decide upon whichever makes you happiest.
BTW: Just to add one more fact, Canada is in a better economic state at the moment, however, I am not sure that economic conditions are affecting medical professions in the United States.|||The cost of living is much lower in Pittsburgh. Housing costs are very cheap compared with other cities. The lagging U.S. economy hasn't affected Pittsburgh as much as other areas. And if you're in a medical field, Pittsburgh is the place to be.
That said, Canada is much cooler, more urban, more international. I love visiting there, but couldn't afford to live there in more than a basement apartment. (I know because we looked into it.)|||If you want to move to Canada, here is a link to the Canadian government web site with the information.
http://www.goingtocanada.gc.ca/CIC/displ鈥?/a>
You can take this test to see if you might qualify
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/s鈥?/a>
One of the most popular ways of entering Canada is as a skilled worker. Follow this link to see if you are eligible
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/s鈥?/a>
However, Canadian employers will often not hire a person without Canadian employment experience, which you cannot get until someone offers you a job. The problem is that so many previous immigrants from countries other than the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand or north western Europe have had false credentials that Canadian employers are wary of hiring people from other places than I listed.
The process of moving to Canada can take up to three years and can cost $10,000 in government fees. Permanent residency in Canada is not free.
If you are a US citizen, an easier to way to work in Canada, at least on a temporary basis may be under NAFTA. However, you must be a member of certain specialty occupations. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/specia鈥?/a>
These occupations are listed here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TN_Visa
As well, if you are an H-1B visa holder in the USA, you may be eligible to apply for permanent residence in Canada.
http://canadaimmigrationlaw.net/Immigrat鈥?/a>
Also note that you do not need to know any French to immigrate to Canada unless you plan to live in the province of Quebec.|||Don't just move here b/c its cool to live in another country. Living in Toronto is expensive. Having said that, nursing jobs are in demand in Canada (I don't know about the practical nurse, its the ones that work in hospitals that are in demand). Can't comment on Pittsburgh...it would be nice to live close to family so if you can get a job there its a bonus.|||Pittsburgh is booming right now. It is one of the rare city with money flowing in rather than going bankrupt.
If you happen to be in Science or Medical field, Pittsburgh is definitely the place to be (http://www.upmc.com/mediarelations/Pages鈥?/a>
There are a lot of things to do too. Check out some of the Pittsburgh events at this site (http://www.eventsburgh.com) and you will see what Pittsburgh can offer.|||I would definitely say Canada.
Besides, the U.S. is kinda in a bit of financial trouble right now, and the Canadian dollar is higher than the U.S. dollar right now. Also, canadians have health care for free. :)|||canada|||Canada is amazing. Love the people and food way more!

If you're looking for the best class and eye candy, you should definitely go to Blush. It's right downtown (at 9th and Ft. Duquesne I think) Loaded bar, champagne room, you name it. And they just went all nude about a year ago. I'm just going from word of mouth here, because my girlfriend would have my head. I heard that Colby Armstrong might come back and play for the Pittsburgh Penguins? I was just wondering if anyone else had heard that?|||I haven't heard that but I wish he could come back. I honestly think getting rid of him was a huge mistake.
He created/set up many goals, and he was a great offensive player.|||I haven't heard that. But I'm willing it to be true, we'll see if that works. *Mariah Limousine Inc. - (724) 388-3894 or (724) 465-5299

$90,000 is the program cost for a bachelors degree in science in hotel and restaurant management from the art institute of Pittsburgh online. It intrested me but is it worth the cost/debt, what jobs could I get, anyone have this or a similar degree? For $90K you can attend literally any of the top-tier universities in the country, so why would you waste a similar amount to take classes from a fake college.....

Or in Pittsburgh, I'm looking for high class talent agencies, with lots of business, And they get their money from commissions only, so I wouldn't be absolutely required to pay for classes, or at least they would suggest classes from somewhere else, so I can do a better job working with them. I trust John Robert Powers, but I think there's none of his places in Pittsburgh, correct me if I'm wrong and please provide other agencies.|||The three largest, most reputable agencies in Pittsburgh (that have gotten me and my friends work in modelling, commercials, movies, etc.) are:
- Nancy Mosser casting - www.mossercasting.com A good source for steady extra and commercial work.
- The Talent Group - www.talentgroup.com - Acting, voice over, modelling
- Docherty - www.dochertyagency.com - Acting, voice over, modelling
None require classes or any up front payment. Just call or attend an open call session (with monologue and head shots ready). In my experience they have all been excellent to work with (for commercial acting, industrials, extra work and print modelling). I don't think there is a John Robert Powers agency in Pittsburgh.|||Thank you so much, I'm going to be looking into this, very good answer. I need to find a monologue that's good for me . I'm a Pittsburgh Penguins fan who has been transplanted to SC so I don't get to hear much about my Pens. Whats up with them? Whats wrong?|||The effects of last spring's eight week playoff run are starting to hit home (i.e. fatigue...both physical and mental).
A loss of character guys (Armstrong, Malone) and their resident policeman (Laraque).
Their captain has, at times, not been as strong of a leader as he should be.
Not sure if sacking the coach is a cure-all; it might help in the short run, but long term...not sure.

The secondary scoring players have died off in their good intensive play and Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin have let the frustrations of a few losses get to their heads which means they are now starting to struggle. Of course, you can't always carry a team on your back alone. Their frustration is losing them games. They're just not playing smart hockey.|||i agree with john d

And yeah, the BCS championship was probably the most boring thing I have ever seen between. I watched a quarter or so of it just because I wanted to see if LSU could get past the 50 yard mark. They finally did near the end of the fourth quarter, I think it was.
I never liked college football, because it doesn't have a playoff system and the popularity rankings really give me no reason to invest my time into it. This game was the epitome of everything that is wrong with college football.
LSU had to win out in order to win a championship game, while Alabama only had to go 1-1. Makes no sense.|||Probably not, because the injuries would have probably kept the Steelers from the top 2. I'd say it would have been the Packers and New England, or maybe Baltimore. Remember at 15-1 the Packers would be the #1. This isn't an AFC only League. However the whole it wouldn't matter that the Ravens won twice would still fit if the rest was true. Why do the Pittsburgh Steelers have their logo on only one side of their helmet?|||The Steelers are the only NFL Team that sports their logo on only one side of the helmet. At first, this was a temporary measure because the Steelers weren't sure they would like the look of the logo on an all-gold helmet. They wanted to test them before going all-out.
Equipment manager Jack Hart was instructed to put the logo only on one side of the helmet - the right side. The 1962 Steelers finished 9-5 and became the winningest team in franchise history to date. The team finished second in the Eastern Conference and qualified for the Playoff Bowl. They wanted to do something special for their first postseason game, so they changed the color of their helmets from gold to black, which helped to highlight the new logo.

I know this topic has been beaten to death with a stick, but I'm lookin' for a personal answer. Not trade partners, not location/proximity, but CULTURALLY, why do you define Pittsburgh as you do?|||Pittsburgh is Midwestern because they eat a lot of cheese and they're in the AFC and they say "don't cha know" and they they're not stylish and how many metrosexuals are there in Pittsburgh and for that matter, Philadelphia should be in the midwest culturally altho they're in the NFC.|||They're midwestern because it is historically a blue collar city built on the steel industry. Northeastern cities were based more on finance. The first time that I visited Pittsburgh to visit a college friend, I was the big city freak from back east.
But the things that you wish to ignore are as important. Pittsburgh is 300 miles from Philadelphia, separated by the Appalachian Mountains. Since water was the important way of getting around prior to 1900, it was more closely related to Ohio than Eastern Pennsylvania.
I'm a current student in Valencia CC. I'm in a transfer plan: psychology, but I would like to take my transfer to University of Pittsburgh, so I was wonder to know if I'm allowed to do it.|||You are going to have to call up Pitt and ask them. They will have to look at Valencia's accreditation, and analyze the classes that you have taken in order to decide if they will take them.
If you were looking at a UC, this would be easier, because they deal with this every day, and already know all of the CCs, and all of the classes offered, and already have decided what will transfer and what will not.
But since this exact situation has probably never come up at Pitt, you are going to have to break down and ask them.|||For an official answer, ask the transfer admissions office at Pitt.

So, is it very important to get CAC/ABET-accredited? Anyway, is penn state u park or pittsburgh's undergraduate computer science program better?|||CAC/ABET accreditation is relatively recent, so many good CS are not yet CAC/ABET accredited. I see it two ways. The first: Kansas City has had pro hockey before. They had the blades which i think was the equivalent of an AAA minor league baseball franchise. On the other hand, the NHL pay structure has more parity and it is easier for teams to be competitive unlike baseball where the team with the highest payroll usually is the team that wins the world series. Plus Kansas City has a brand new arena(the Sprint Center) being built and ready.

NHL DRAFT | Pittsburgh’s pick could interest KC
Penguins still may end up nesting here
By RANDY COVITZ
The Kansas City Star
Hockey fans in Kansas City have good reason to keep an eye on today’s National Hockey League draft in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The second pick in the draft belongs to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and their selection has a chance of playing in a Kansas City uniform when the Sprint Center opens in the fall of 2007.
The Pittsburgh franchise is for sale and is a prime candidate to move if plans are not in place for a new building before its lease at antiquated Mellon Arena expires at the end of the upcoming season.
Sam Fingold, a real-estate developer from Toronto now based in Hartford, Conn., said Friday he plans to make an offer for the Penguins “relatively soon” and reiterated that he would move the club to Kansas City if not assured of a new arena in Pittsburgh.
The Isle of Capri gaming company has promised to fund a $290 million facility adjacent to Mellon Arena if it secures a standalone slot machine parlor in Pittsburgh. But if one of two other bidders for the license is selected by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board sometime before the end of 2006, there would be no assurance for a new arena, freeing the club to move.
Fingold said from what he hears, Isle of Capri’s chances don’t “look all that great. Obviously (that leaves) Kansas City.”
Another bidder for the Penguins, Andy Murstein, president of Medallion Financial Corp. in New York, said he wants to keep the Penguins in Pittsburgh and told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the Isle of Capri “has less than a 50 percent chance” of gaining the slots license.
Murstein, who at one time expressed interest in purchasing the Kansas City Wizards soccer team, said he plans to make an offer and told the Post-Gazette the Penguins “are probably going to sign (a letter of intent) with somebody within the next 30 days.”
That means a sale of the Penguins — for an expected $150 million to $170 million — could be consummated before the awarding of the slots license.
Should Isle of Capri not be granted the slots license, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell has proposed a Plan B for building a new arena. The winning casino bidder would commit $7.5 million a year for 30 years, and the Penguins would contribute $4 million a year toward construction.
Murstein told the Post-Gazette he believes Plan B would work, but Fingold has his doubts. There could be other interested parties who want to relocate the team to cities such as Houston; Hamilton, Ontario; or Winnipeg, Manitoba, but the Penguins’ lease stipulates the club must wait until July 1 to contact prospective buyers who want to move the franchise.
The Penguins have declined to comment on any aspect of the sale other than the fact that the team is on the market.
Fingold has been in constant contact with Paul McGannon of NHL21, the group in Kansas City dedicated to bringing the NHL to the Sprint Center, and with AEG, which will manage the arena.
McGannon is attending the draft and networking with NHL owners and officials on behalf of Kansas City while working on bringing an exhibition game to Kemper Arena this fall.|||Well hopefully more than last season LOL
I was just wondering, how old do you have to be to drive in Pittsburgh?|||You can drive at any age in Pittsburgh, but in order to have a license, you need to be 16 years old.|||It's probably the same age as the rest of Pennsylvania, so at 16 you can get your learner's permit and 6 months after you can take the test to get your license.

If you have other suggestions of cities to move to for less brutal summers and cold winters please feel free to tell me and I will take them into consideration. Thanks!|||Thanks to the piles and piles of lawyers and irresponsible parents and children, the ponds near me in NY that I grew up playing pond hockey on are now never open for skating. As much as you'll need cold enough weather, you also need either your own pond or to have the local parks open for skating. Good luck!|||To answer your question, yes and no.Pittsburgh weather will give you a roughly 6-8 week period in which pond hockey can be played (Early January-late February). THE BIGGEST CON is if your not a sports fan you might not fit in because Pittsburgh is a big sports city we have the pens and the steelers and fans here are like no other city but you can easily get into sports.|||Another two cons that you didn't mention to the move from Hawaii would be the lack of a nearby beach (closest would be Atlantic CIty NJ at about 7 hour drive) and the deep freezes in winter. Next month on a Saturday, We're taking the Pennsylvanian to Pittsburgh and have over 3 hours wait from about 8PM to 12M for the connection to Chi. 1. Can we check our bags while we wait? 2. What's to do nearby?|||Unfortunately, there's not a lot to do (within walking distance) at that time of night. There are some restaurants and bars within 3 or 4 blocks. If the Pirates happen to be in town, you could swing over and mill around the stadium and get something to eat/drink there - the atmosphere around the ballpark is usually pretty cool. - - - Not sure about checking bags though. I would like to get Jasmine plants or seeds as a gift and I live near Pittsburgh. Will Home Depot/ Loews have something like that? Many of the nursery's aren't open during the winter. Atlanta has used a coaching change to turn around their season, Washington is trying it. With the lofty expectations on the Penguins at the start of the year and their lackluster performance so far, how much longer does Therrien get to turn it around?
Unless Pittsburgh starts playing .500 plus hockey I think he is gone before the new year.|||I think Pittsburgh should address its goaltending situation before they make a coaching change. Marc-Andre Fleury has been letting in a lot of questionable goals this season. I'm not saying trade Fleury but maybe he does need a veteran back up goalie to work with him before he loses all his confidence and becomes another Jocelyn Thibault when he was with the Habs. I still don't understand why they haven't gone out to sign UFA Curtis Joseph, who can still play a couple of games and teach Fleury in the process.|||i don't think they will get rid of therrien unless they don't make it in the playoffs. last year they were a little slow to get started in the 1st half of the season and in the 2nd part of the season they were on fire. they will most likely make a trade or something of the sort before they consider firing therrien.|||I agree....shortly after the break if nothing improves before then.

I am a single 25 yr old female moving to Pittsburgh, PA for a year for work and I am very unfamiliar with the city and need to know some popular, but nice and clean, neighborhoods for a someone who wants to really take advantage of Pittsburg nightlife and what the city has to offer. I do not know anyone in the city so I'm looking to live somewhere where I can make friends. Any suggestions are welcome. Also please feel free to suggest some nice apartments too!|||The Southside of Pittsburgh offers many aspects, its East Carson St. which has many bars and clubs. In the heart of the Southside the is a brand-new strip mall called the Southside Works it has many great resturants( THE CHEESECAKE FACTORTY) is just one of many. there is a town house complex right in the heart of Southside Works area. In addition East Carson street has a wide array of apartments ands condos, it all depends on what your willing to spend Southside has beautiful apartments and some hole-in-the-wall ones. THE SOUTHSIDE IS AN AMAZING AREA WITH LOTS OF NIGHTLIFE AND YOUNG PEOPLE
Also SHADYSIDE is a very cool area a little more up-scale with ivy covered apartment builings and stores. The shopping in the shadyside is also a litlle more pricey with boutiques and stuff. The resturant and bars in Shadyside are modern and unique which makes it a very popoular neighborhood.
OAKLAND is also popular it has alot of apartments for young people like college students for: PITT CARNEGIE MELLON AND CARLOW. OAKLAND is a cool little city inside of a city with a lot of resturants and shops I WENT TO SCHOOL IN OAKLAND, I LOVED THE ATMOSPHERE!!!
FINALLY... MT. Washington is a neat PGH area it has beautiful apartments with studding views of the whole city this is a very scenic part of town with cool resturant and some bars. Some of there apartsments are costly and some are cheap. YOu just have to shop around.

I was reading the Yahoo! News Article about the very violent protests going on in Pittsburgh, PA right now, the city hosting the upcoming G-20 Summit.
It described a man with a "Don't tread on me" flag from Wisconsin, which has been linked to the tea parties. Then it talked about liberals in the protests. After that, it referenced many anarchists, like one from Sarycuse, NY.
Why are so many different political views protesting together and what were they protesting?|||I dont know but the police and the news are calling them unlawful assemblies. I dont have to agree with them to know they have the first amendment and that is the only law they need. No assembly is unlawful. We have the first amendment with or without permission.|||Well, the G20 represent the Strongest Military/Financial powers around the world. These people are protesting what they see as a Meeting of Global Elites making decisions that effect regular people's lives.
Essentially, this is what the "Tea Baggers" really should be protesting, if they had the opportunity to analyze the situation deeper than Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh allow them to.
The anti-globalization movement has been around for decades and is very strong. "The "9/12 Project" is meant to distract people from protests like the g20 summit because it keeps people divided and distracted.|||These people remind me of the "fans" that "celebrate" their sports teams championship by rolling over cars and setting fires to them.

I am new in Pittsburgh PA, moved from West Coast. I hear certain items are exempt from sales tax. I know about clothes and shoes, but what else is exempt?|||Food (to be prepared at home), clothing, drugs, textbooks, heating fuel.
Other than that, a Pittsburgh (actually, Allegheny County) resident pays 7% sales tax on goods and services.|||There are also some items at the grocery store, I think paper products are one.
Sad that I've lived here for 20+ years and can't tell you what is or isn't.
Even with tax on all items though, the cost of living here is sooooo much les than the west coast. Welcome to large amounts of expendable income!|||Food from supermarkets (bread, milk, etc) is exempt from sales tax too, but not prepared food from restaurants (weird, huh).|||I'm from Pittsburgh,PA and I'm not sure but i think their might not be a food tax but their is an alcohol tax.
I feel sad for Boston. I was hoping they would go all the way. Sad night in Boston. At least Pittsburgh is in the Eastern Conference Finals for the fourth time in their history, the second time in a row. Carolina is looking good, after eliminating the 1st (Boston) and 3rd (New Jersey), and Pittsburgh survived against their arch enemies, Philly and Washington. So Pens fans, are you with me, do you think we can oust Carolina in the Eastern Conference Finals?|||Last three times Carolina & NJ met in the playoffs the winner's gone to the finals. This will be the fourth.|||3 reasons why the Pittsburgh Penguins are going to win the Stanley Cup
1. They made it last year, but lost. This year it will be a rematch, and they will win.
2. Dan Bylsma took over and we are the hottest team, even though Carolina was also hot. Bylsma will go down in history.
3. Marian Hossa left because he thought his best chance to win a Cup was with Detroit, but Pittsburgh is going to win and rub it in.|||LOL, just silly, absurd comment above, who thought the Pens had no chance against the Caps? No one that I heard anywhere whatsoever. It was quite the contrary and no one is underestimating the Pens. Now don't underestimate the Canes because they're a damn tough out. Should be a good series!|||everyone thought the pens never had a chance against the caps, but i did cause im a pens fan but i totally thing everyone underestmated the pens but the pens are going to kick butt monday night because they have the sour taste of stanely cup loss last year, so heres to hoping.|||It should be an awesome series. I believe in the Canes so I think they'll beat the Pens 4-3.
Hmmm! Sounds familiar...no chance against the Devils, no chance against the Bruins, and now no chance against the Pens. Keep on thinking that...it's worked for us so far! LOL|||I feel bad for Boston too. They were the best team in the East and the Hurricanes embarrassed them. I think we can beat Carolina if Sid plays like he did against Washington. Pens in 6.|||carolina has NO CHANCE against pittsburg.its going to be a boring series.4-1 easy.come on carolina fans, get real.you will get your asses kicked.|||I think we can beat Carolina, i was hoping to play them instead of Boston. I will be getting on I 76 from 476 and driving to downtown Pittsburgh tomorrow.|||Well that depends on which part of 476 you're coming from. If you're coming from the Blue Route (the free part of 476) or the Northeast Extension (the tolled part of 476).
And new tolls went into effect today. If you're getting from the Blue Route and get off at Exit 57, which will put you on 376 into Downtown Pittsburgh, the toll will be $19.70.
If you're getting on at Lansdale, the toll is $20.65. From Quakertown, the toll is $21.60. From Lehigh Valley and points north, the 476-76 combo is not your best bet to get to Pittsburgh anyway.

Pittsburgh is most horror & sick city in the world!!! Why alway Pittsburgh let people to smoke cigarettes in the schools, shopping malls, restaurants, bars, stores, etc? Why alway all people smoke cigarettes all time? I am shocking to see each person who smoke over 50 cigarettes everyday.|||Because Gov. Ed Rendell hasn't gotten to them yet. |||Pramanti Brothers. or go to a deli and get a chipped ham sandwich (cant get chipped ham anywhere but pittsburgh) i think|||Pemanti Bros!|||Primantti Bros. is the typical restraunt/food associated with Pittsburgh. It's what they always show clips of them making on Sunday Night Football. (Grill fried lunch meat, provalone cheese, tomato, french fries, sweet vinegar colelsaw all on two huge slices of Mancini's italian bread). Great stuff, put the Red Devil Hotsauce on it.
Islays Chipped Ham Sandwiches are very Pittsburgh too. You can't get that stuff anywhere outside of Pittsburgh. My friends came back in from DC and were complaining they can't get Islay's chipped ham down there. It makes the best Ham BBQ too. Take some home with you.
Perogies are pretty Pittsburgh, Grill 36 serves them as a starter, there available at a lot of local restraunts too.
Pittsburgh Steak or Chicken Salads are topped with french fries and ranch dressing.
Sarris Chocolates are very very good, especially their chocolate covered pretzles. You can get those at Giant Eagle and some gift shops.
The Original Hotdog Shop (The Dirty "O" as it's referred to) in Oakland had homemade Hotdogs that were excellent, but I think that closed down.
lol it's all real heavy and fatty foods, wonder why Pittsburgh has a weight problem? ;) A lot of the chains have pushed out the local small restraunts lately, so it's tough to rattle off some things that are "just pittsburgh" anymore. Primantti's is probably the most unique followed by Islays.
i'm not from around pittsburgh and the only reason i'll be there on my birthday is because of the winter classic the next day. my birthday s the 31st of december.. i heard that the south-side is where i want to be? anybody know of good bars down there?|||I lived in South Side for 5 years, and it is pretty much all dive bars, a million in a row. The bars are all very small, and it's difficult to move, talk or get a drink on weekends. If that's the scene you're looking for, definitely go there. I enjoyed it when I was in my early 20's. I just moved though, because I couldn't stand it anymore, people are out of control.
I far prefer Station Square. They have a mix of larger bars that aren't as jammed up with people. They are also a lot nicer of bars. If you like dancing too, there's a good mix of dance clubs there. There's virtually no room to dance at all in South Side bars. My favorite birthday bar is Buckhead Saloon in Station Square. If you let them know that it's your birthday, you get in for free. Everyone with your party gets in for free up til 10:00. Your drinks are all $1 from10:00-midnight, and your friends drinks are all $3 from 10:00-midnight.
http://www.buckheadpittsburgh.com/
You also have Bar Room, SaddleRidge, Steelhouse, Zen, Bar Louie and other places there. For celebrating your birthday with friends, I think it'd be more enjoyable at a nicer/larger bar than a crowded dive bar.

If you do go to South Side, here's a good tip for you. Don't park anywhere illegal, they've been towing & ticketing every weekend, hundreds of cars per night. Don't park near stop signs, hydrants, or within 20 feet of any street corner. Don't block a driveway or garage. It's nearly impossible to find parking on weekends, so you'll just have to keep cruising until you find something open.|||If you just want to get drunk Southside is a good choice.
If you want to enjoy beer, then google "Sharp edge" or "D's six packz and dogz"
or search drinking related events in Pittsburgh at http://www.eventsburgh.com
So, I've been watching and reading about the riots in pittsburgh and how Obama has decided to hold the G20 summit in pittsburgh. My question is, whats the big deal?|||Nobody wants to live in Tyranny.
Henry Kissinger said the number one problem on the planet is that we have too many people. So they created the Global Plan 2000. It calls for war to get started in the Mid East which is to spead in the US as part of their ultimate plan. They want to complete it by then and depopulate the planet by 2012. There may be a total collapse of our economy in the next 6 weeks. China said we will not give you more money. And if you bring the dollar down China says that is an act of war. So why is the Chinese building up their Military right now? Russia said we don't want your dollar you have to pay us in gold or oil. The only currencies we have now is drugs, gold and oil.

Why Pittsburgh? Pittsburgh is a nice city and the President of the United States happens to like it. It has many things to offer. Why riots? There are people out there that think they need to do crazy things to get attention or to draw attention to what they believe in. They think the only thing they can do is break things or burn things. I don't know what the "BIG" news agencies were reporting but the rioting was very small, considering the magnitude of the G20. There were only around 100 people arrested for civil disobedience.|||Where have you been all your life. You really thing liberals and the left need a reason to riot, rampage and destroy private property.
In Texas there are HUD homes available at nearly half the price for Public School teachers. I'm just wondering if anything similar is available in Pittsburgh.|||Hud is Federal so most likely there are incentives for teachers. Check www.hud.gov and you should be able to follow the link for more information. Just understand that homes offered to teachers are usually in the less than best areas of that city. Have patience and look at the Hud website for a while to find something you can live with, it's a great deal for teachers getting a house at 50% off. Does anyone know when will the Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup parade be? And also where it will be held?|||Pittsburgh Penguins Parade:Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup - The Pittsburgh Penguins are the Stanley Cup Champions after beating the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 last night. There will be a big parade in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the upcoming hours but expect it to be a low budget affair.Pittsburgh mayor Luke Ravenstahl who was hoping for the Penguins to lose said:
“The Steelers’ championship parade cost us roughly $6.5 million in street closures, float rental, security expenditures, and sanitation overtime—not to mention the incalculable loss of man-hours for our struggling local businesses.” “Pittsburgh can’t afford to forget how the four Super Bowl parades we had in the 1970s were followed by mill closures, layoffs, and a decade-long recession. Let’s go Wings!”

This was asked earlier this evening.|||The Steelers are the only NFL team that sports their logo on only one side of the helmet.
Because of the interest generated by having the logo on only one side of their helmets and because of their team's new success, the Steelers decided to leave it that way permanently.
Today's helmet reflects the way the logo was originally applied and it has never been changed.
The Steelers are all about tradition! Go Steelers! Take down the chargers!!!|||because their only half as cheap as cleveland who have none on their helmets.|||They are a blue collar city They watch the $ any way possible alot of pride in Pitt
I am getting married next year and we love the Steelers and Pittsburgh so we wanted to have a fun event at the field. Anyone know prices or any info? I know the site has an FAQ but nothing that has prices and I wanted to know before I contacted them. Thanks for any info!|||Gillette Stadium (Where the Patriots play) has a large banquet type room for company functions and weddings and it is a fortune!!!! Our company had a corporate kick-off there 2 years ago and it was around $150,000 for 5 hours. NOT CHEAP ha ha. I assume weddings or equal or greater since our reception (~100 employees) was less than most weddings. And we had appetizers w/o an entree.|||I know they have long rooms on both sides of the stadium that serve as being the club for the grey seating. Expansive lighting, and a long room (in Pittsburgh colors), with the stadium's kitchen facilities down the hall-near the west side, about 100 yards from the east side or parking lot side. They do hold many parties for all occasions there, but I do not know what it would cost.
I have to draw an animal for school and I love the Pittsburgh Penguins so I thought I'd turn it into a bit of a fan art. Should I use an empire penguin or does it not really matter?|||Emperor penguins are an excellent choice, they have the gold on their throats and sides of their heads so you can get all the Penguins colours.|||Being that you're drawing animals, I'm guessing you're not in a very high grade. That being said, noone's going to know or care what type of Penguin it is anyway. There's no zoologists in grade school. In a college bio class someone might look at that and think "empire penguin". At your level (again I'm just guessing that you're in grade school), kids are going to look at that and just think "penguin". So the type doesn't matter.
EDIT: Empire penguins ARE emperor penguins. It's an AKA.|||Actually they are Emperor Penguins, not Empire, not to be mean but just so if you are writing it you don't lose points for the name. To be honest I don't think the team picked any real type of Penguin, they just took a Penguin. I will admit that the Emperor Penguin would be a good choice because they are a rather large Penguin.|||Go for it, I'm pretty sure they won't study it to make sure it is perfect. They'd probably like it, they'd think it was creative, haha. :p|||I have no idea and I'm just spit balling this but I presume they d be affiliated with each other, some how! maybe they re a sub unit team?? like AHL feeder team?|||One is a hockey team, the other lives in the Antarctica.
I am a second semester freshmen in college and applied as a transfer to the University of Pittsburgh for next fall. I got a 3.8 GPA my first semester in college, but i only had around a 3.0 GPA in high school. I got a 25 on my ACTs without the writing. The admissions office wants to see my grades after i am finished this semester. Is this bad? Do i have any chance of getting in? Would i be accepted/declined after this semester ends or before?|||It can depend on where you acquired the 3.8 GPA. The more impressive the school, the more impressive the GPA. I wouldn't worry about your high school GPA since you're already a freshman in college. And admissions will always want to see your grades for the end of the semester just to make sure you didn't slack off badly at the end. If anything, that's probably a good sign, because if they weren't interested in you to begin with they probably wouldn't care what your grades were at the end of the semester. I don't know when you'd be accepted/declined as a transfer. As a senior in high school, I got accepted after 4-6 months i think. I'm sure you have a fairly decent chance of getting in.

I'm going to be attending the Mortuary School of Pittsburgh located on 5808 Baum Blvd. I do in fact need an apartment in a good area that is within walking distance to the school. I also would love to know more about the city. Thank you!|||Hah-- that's actually quite near me. I *think* the mortuary school is technically in East Liberty. Do NOT move there!!! Nearby neighborhoods to look at: Shadyside, Bloomfield, Friendship. Bloomfield and Friendship are going to be cheaper. What exactly are you looking for in an apt? There are some regular old high-rise buildings around here, but also an awful lot of 1900s Victorian Houses that have been converted into 2 and 3 apartments that are for rent. Some condos, too. I love this area though, you can walk to three grocery store, Schenley park, lots of bars and restaurants around too! :-)
We live a little north of Pittsburgh, Slippery Rock actually. I love eating out and chatting. I am always looking for new, really good restaurants. Any ideas?|||If you're going into the city there's a bunch. If you've been in pittsburgh long than you know these two:
"The O" is on the corner of Bouqet and Forbes in Oakland
"Primanti Brothers" are in Oakland, South Side, and the Strip
My favorite from back home is
"The Cambodican" It's in the south side down towards 14th or 15th on East Carson St. It's right across from Nakama. Just a little hole in the wall place with AMAZING cambodican food. Super cheap, super delicious. Definetly check it out if your in the South Side.|||Pasta Too

Who has the best network for Pittsburgh and the surrounding area?|||Honestly, it really depends on the surrounding areas. Verizon has execellent coverage. I currently have verizon and live near the pittsburgh airport. It is the best coverage in my area which is about 30 min from the city. Within the city limits, most major carriers have execellent service. In the past I have had Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile and Cricket. Sprint seems to work miracles inside of buildings that normally do not receive service. I would go back to Sprint again. At&t can be shaky in several areas. It is probably my least recommended. T-Mobile works great in the city (and their customer service is remarkable) but outside the city limits beware! I had to leave T-Mobile because there were several areas with no service at all. Cricket is a more local provider. I have not used them in years, but the friends that I have who use Cricket stand by it faithfully. Coverage in the area is great, but I am not sure that you have any service outside the area without extra fees. All-in-all I would choose verizon or Sprint if I were you. See who is offering the best deal. Hope that this helps!|||Awesome answer! Thanks! Report Abuse

Why is Pitts property tax so high? How come people say that Pennsylvania has really affordable houses? I really need an advice about where I should buy a NICE house. We are moving to Pittsburgh soon and I'm looking for an easy commute to UPMC Shadyside but also a good school district and close to shopping and highways.|||The property taxes are high throughout the county. There are a great many old people here who do not work any longer so wage tax revenue's aren't what they are in other places.
The cost of houses in Pittsburgh tends to be less than most places in the country. A standard 3 bedroom house in a nice neighborhood will rarely exceed $150,000. Where the housing market gets interesting is what you can buy if you are able to spend more. 200k or 250k can get you a house in Pittsburgh that would cost 500k or more elsewhere.
If you aren't familiar with the landscape in Pittsburgh, you'll find many distinct neighborhoods. Its pretty confusing actually - a mailing address of "Pittsburgh, PA" does not necessarily mean you are within city limits. The city proper is quite small - only like 350,000 residents actually reside within official city limits. Within the city itself, you could be right by work if you lived in Shadyside or Squirrel Hill - both are excellent city neighborhoods. Greenfield is close and is calm and quiet. Certain parts of Edgewood or Swissvale (east of town) will provide a reasonable neighborhood and a short commute. All city residents unfortunately pay a 3% wage tax.
Pretty much as soon as you cross a river you are likely to be in a neighboring municipality. The wage taxes there will almost certainly be 1%.
If you chose a suburb, I strongly suggest one north of the city. Traffic is a million times better with no tunnels to go through. 279 north gets a bit backed up at rush hour of course, but overall the north hills has excellent traffic flow the rest of the day.
The best shopping area in the area is McKnight Road. The premire mall of the city is there (Ross Park) and pretty much any other store you can think of has a storefront along McKnight Road. This is in the north hills
North Hills, Shaler, and Fox Chapel are 3 school districts that border the northern side of the city. Each offers a drive of fewer than 20 minutes into town (a bit more with rush hour traffic) and a completely suburban lifestyle. Shaler and North Hills are middle of the road school districts. If the child is smart and on the ball, he or she can do quite well at either place. (I attended Shaler). Fox Chapel is one of the area's best districts. Two more districts are south of the city - Mount Lebanon and Upper Saint Clair are both in the south hills but are excellent schools.
The north hills (don't confuse the 'north hills' general area with North Hills the specific school district) with access to 279 is my recommendation. For reference, I grew up in the north hills, and have lived in the city and the south hills.
Good luck!
With this drink tax, I dont feel like going anywhere where they "pour" the alcohol. Also, it's more economical to start buying bottles now throughout the year, than one lump some the day of, hence the BYOB location. I've never been to the South Side, but my friends aren't fans. Suggestions?|||It may have beer specials early but call to confirm. Go to the Penn Brewery which has good food and great beer. Then head out to clubs.|||There's a lot of dive bars on the south side, all with cheap drink specials, but if you want to pay just a little more try the new Hofbrauhaus. A liter of Beer is about $7, and food prices are not bad either. We've been there a few times, it's a lot of fun, live music, nice outside biergarten, ...|||country fans??
Saddle Ridge ~Station Square (ride the bull)
If not, do you think they will stay in Pittsburgh??|||The Pirates will definitely be improved this year. However, even expecting a modest improvement, they probably will not reach .500. I expect them to improve by about ten games and that would leave them with a 78-84 record. They'll be better, but it's going to take time. As far as staying in Pittsburgh is concerned, there is no danger in them leaving. Why leave when you have one of the most beautiful ball parks in MLB and you are making a profit (from revenue sharing)?|||My prediction 55-107. Doesn't mean much cause I thought Cleveland would win the World Series at the beginning of last year. Picking the Tigers this year. Maybe they will win 65 since I predicted 55.|||No. I think they will finish only above Houston, and even that might be optimistic. They'll be bad, even compared to the other bad teams in the division.
But they will *definitely* stay in Pittsburgh. Nothing to worry about there.
----------
Dude, PNC is the best park in the majors. That team isn't going anywhere.|||I'm concerned they may have another sub .500 year. I used to live out there and the new park is awesome. Since they got rid of Bonds and Bonilla they haven't had much as a collective team (individual talents, yes), but they are fun to watch and they epitomize what baseball is about - playing hard versus getting big contracts and buying championships. I hope they don't move, but they've been talking about that for years. I'm afriad if they get a few stars, they can't aford to keep them. Go Pirates!|||Why will they stay in Pittsburgh, maybe because the Pirates posted a $20 million dollar profit last season. They are out of contention for playoffs early, but manage to sell out every game. Truly amazing!!!!! As a lifelong Pirate fan it is agonizing to watch them play. But as I am often told baseball is a business, & the Pirates are profitable. Why the hell would they move???
In Pittsburgh, the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates all wear black and gold. Are there any other cities with major sports teams, that all wear the same colors?|||Yes, Pittsburgh is the only city. There was actually a hockey team called the Pittsburgh Pirates that wore black and gold. That's why the Penguins were permitted to change their colors from blue and white to black and gold.|||No Pittsburgh is the only city. The first team to wear Black and Gold was actually the Boston Bruins.
Pittsburghers truly bleed black and gold. I love that the city has the same colors in all the pro sports!
My boyfriend is coming home for Christmas he is in the Army just graduated Basic Training and is now in his advanced individual training. His family grew up in pittsburgh and his a huge steelers fan i would love to suprise him for christmas with tickets to a steelers game on Dec 20th or 27th. But i'm in college and I don't have a lot of money does anyone know where i could get cheap tickets but good seats?|||Hi,
Your best bet is to go to a site like ZebraTickets. ZebraTickets scours the web and brings all the deals from every reseller together on one page. So you save a lot of time, see a lot of choices, and can get the best deal. You can see all the Steelers tickets at http://www.zebratickets.com/sports/Pitts鈥?/a>|||There is no such thing as cheap tickets for good seats.|||Depends on your perception of cheap. Get in touch with the Steelers ticket offices ASAP or you could also try stubhub.com, craigslist.org (pretty sure they have a local site for Pittsbrugh PA) or even ebay but have a general idea of where you want to sit and are able to spend first ..|||Steeler tickets are near impossible to obtain let alone cheaply. If your boyfriend is in the Army it would be beneficial to contact the Steeler office directly. Most likely they will make you prove that he is in the armed services, that would be your only chance at getting tickets for him. They have been sold out every game for over 30 years.
I would be very careful purchasing through an internet site, there are a large amount of counterfeit tickets out there.|||Really it's B.S. what they charge for seats to a single game, but i would say if u could find a person at the game (last second) who needed to get rid of their ticket, then may-be you'll get some discount. or what i did i waited and watched a ticket to the red sox's on eBay.com i waited on one until 1 min. left till it sold i got it for $55 not bad. This usually never happens I feel lucky as ****. well good luck.

There are little brown mud things hanging from my floor joist and flying ants around the light above my washer, are these termites? The one guy I called said $1000-$1500 to treat it. My neighbor had them and he called that big company and he paid big bucks and still has them. I live in the Pittsburgh area who should I call? Can I treat them myself?|||Go with a name you can trust and will guarantee their service.
Someone like Terminex. It'll probably be a little more expensive, but you can be sure they get rid of the bugs.|||I'm using a local company with good referrals. I think Thomas B. had a good answer. Very happy with the service and price.|||I would use a large company with guarantees so that in the future you can get them back out to complete the job, it will take many trips over the yrs. to make sure they don't come back, they even have pay plans like a bank loan.|||Tough one... Big companies will have money to back damages, that's if you are buying a termite guarantee, which is basically like a termite insurance policy. But, I have worked with the two biggest companies and personally I think you get better service at other locations.
Look for BBB reports, and a termidor certificate.|||Call a good national company that guarantees their work before you lose your foundation|||i bet the flying things are flying ants not termites. your washer is in the garage and the light is not yellow but a standard lightbulb?????? the bug is possible reddish color with wings, the wings are not even but different sized from back compared to front. i thought the same thing til i went online and investigated. i went into google.com and typed in the difference between termites and flying ants. one bug has a body that is sectioned with 2 or 3 seperate sections the other does not. change the light bulb, they go away. brown mud thing sound like mud dobbers. get rid of the mud.

Anytime you see signs that say "ABX" on them, that means filming for Abduction is there. It's the coding for the film.
Filming has been confirmed to begin at Hampton High School in the North Hills tomorrow, where I believe a great deal of the movie will be filmed. I've heard that a lot of people are planning on showing up there. You can track filming locations for Abduction here:

Then he mentioned that Pittsburgh had one of the best defensive squads of all time but he didn't say what year. What year was he talking about and who were some of the players on that team?|||Maybe he was talking about their national championship team back in the 1970's.

I graduated undergraduate college with degrees in Psychology and Business Administration. I live in the Greater Pittsburgh area. I am looking to get my foot in the door to build a successful career in marketing, which is an area that greatly interests me. I have no marketing experience and would love to somehow get a job to start my career in Marketing...
Any help is greatly appreciated on how to start this out.|||Marketing is a continually hot field. No matter how technology changes other industries, there will always be companies with something to sell and they'll need savvy professionals to bring their products and services to the public's attention. That's the essence of marketing. Follow these steps to start a career in this lucrative profession.
Difficulty:Moderately EasyInstructions
Things You'll Need
Portfolio
Resume
1
Consider your education. In a competitive marketplace, businesses have more than enough candidates to choose from with at least a Bachelors degree. You would be hard pressed to find a position in marketing without a basic BA degree. Reputable schools can be found in most cities and a Bachelors degree will pay for itself over and over.
2
Volunteer or intern during your summer vacation or the first few months out of school. You will gain invaluable experience and work history for your resume.
3
Polish your resume, highlighting any practical experience and marketing specific classes you have taken. In lieu of practical experience, refer to the class projects, volunteer programs and marketing plans you completed in class.
4
Create a portfolio of your best college and paid work. Highlight the best writing samples, mock advertisements, research projects and collateral materials you worked on. Lean heavily towards the area you want to consider. For example, show several copywriting pieces if you would like to get into a professional writing position. Alternately, choose advertisements you have designed if you would like a graphic arts position.
5
Take advantage of the alumni connections from your college or university. Are there any alumni working at a firm you'd like to work at? Would any of them grant you an informational interview? Utilize the placement office as well who will have plenty of information on interviewing, your job search and hiring firms.
6
Search out a small firm which is an excellent jumping off point early in your career. You'll be a big fish in a little pond which gives you lots of experience on a variety of projects. You will wear many hats so your resume will fill quickly.
7
Network, network, network. Collect contacts all throughout your career, not just when you are job hunting. Always have a business card on you and ask for others. Keep in touch on a regular basis. You will most likely run across the same people over and over again. Make friends with people both higher and lower than you on the food chain.
8
Continue your education. Marketing never stays static. Go to seminars or conferences to determine new avenues of marketing and to discuss trends. Learn computer programs as they change and evolve.

I am a senior in High school and I have been excepted to The Arts Institute of Pittsburgh for Photography and I have heard some negative things about the The Arts Institutes, so is this a good a song to attend, or is it a fraud? I would love to attend to this school. But some of the things I have heard, worry me. So could you please give me some positive and some negative answers. Thank You.|||Seriously, and I"m sure that you're very talented, but just about anyone can get accepted into the 'art institute' as it is one of those private overpriced for-profit tech schools. Please listen to the negative reviews of the school (and 'fashion institute of technology' and 'fashion institute of design'). There are quite a few negative posts by former students at these consumer sites:
http://www.ripoffreport.com
http://www.pissedconsumer.com
http://www.complaintsboard.com and can type into search.
Even those with a college (four-year) degree from an accredited program in art and design may have difficulty find work, but here is a site with accredited programs in the field: http://nasad.arts-accredit.org and can click "member lists" on the left-hand side of the page.
For US colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ
General career information: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'photographers' or such.|||Don't waste your time/money on The Art Institutes. They're a debt trap.
They're an elaborate corporate scam to funnel as many Government Pell grants and guaranteed loans out of students as they can and leave the students with the bill.
If its one of the Art Institutes run by EDMC, avoid them like a plague.
They're like McDonald's of Art "Colleges". They're a chain that is popping up everywhere. They buy out dying schools, rename them, keep the accreditation.
They may seem like they would be good, but it is all smoke and mirrors. Pretty building with pretty computers. Meanwhile, it will just ruin your life.
The market demand they say they're meeting is not the demand of the Job market, its the demand of the students. Students that graduated AI are struggling to get jobs and have over more than $50,000+ or $90,000+ in debt depending on what degree they went for. Degrees that are worthless in the job market.
Basically, AI is a degree mill. They use bloated success stats and circle logic to back them up.
They count students working at Toys R Us as in the field. Avoid them if you want to actually have a decent future.
If you really want to pursue your passion, go to a community college, study fine art, and then transfer into a state school. It will be cheaper and the money you save you can buy your own equipment and STILL have money left over for a better future.
Their job leads are bogus, they go to Monster, Craigslist, and career builder just like everyone else. Their top employer is HOME DEPOT (Check their own website) and I guarantee none of those are art jobs.
Don't make the same mistake my friends and I did. We'll be paying for it for the rest of our lives.
If you go with AI you'll be folding clothes at Target or hawking video games at Toys R Us for $8.25 an hour and struggling to pay $90,000 with bill collectors haunting your every waking moment with no way to stop them because there is no bankruptcy protection on Student loans.
lol it wouldn't let me post ALL my sources, it said I have too many.

We here in Pittsburgh have already been through all that and now we love him again. He is our QB and the greatest in the league. Other NFL fans can hate on him all they want but he's our guy.
Roethlisberger is the man!|||Roethlisberger may have the strongest arm in the league, though McNabb can throw the ball 60+ yards easily in the air, but he is not the best. Peyton Manning can read and dissect a defense, calls 90% of the plays, has the best usage of not only audibles, but the hurry up offense which he runs 45+ minutes of each game and rarely huddles. The Colts aren't my favorite team and Manning isn't my favorite player, but I have to give Manning the best QB title because he is the epitomy of that position, composure (Big Ben has proven many times he lacks composure), physical and mental toughness, accuracy and finesse as well as arm strength. If this was the first accusation against Roethlisberger I would say that it could be a fluke or a fan wanting money, but there are only so many times rape can be called before it seems as if it is a habit and that he is guilty. I don't care if the Steelers fans welcome him back or not, I am just basically saying he isn't the best QB as you have stated.|||Hey. Its okay to treat women like crap. Goodell lessened the suspension so if the commissioner says its okay to treat women like crap then it must be okay. Report Abuse
|||I have loved the Steelers for 35 years. But in my opinion, Ben Roethlisberger has demonstrated a total lack of respect for women at the very least. And I have seen nothing that has redeemed him of that yet. And my opinion is that he can not redeem himself of the disrespect that he showed these women on the gridiron. To me, it seems that there are some that think throwing touchdown passes...and getting paid multimillion's of dollars for doing it...is adequate restitution for the taking advantage of two women sexually. I am not in that camp. After he has redeemed himself to his victims...then it could all be good again...but those two women, and nobody else...have to make the call as to whether the scale is balanced. And I realize all of the ifs and buts. In my mind, the entire situation needs to be 100% resolved however that ends up being.|||As long as he wins, that's all your shallow morons care about, right? Fact is none of you idiots would leave him alone with your daughter or sister (since most of you are probably sleeping with them anyway). No person is above the law and judgment. You really think that because he can throw a football that he deserves to be overlooked for rape? That is just low.|||As a Steeler fan, I can't say that I love Ben Rothlisberger, but I do love our team. He is just a part of it. Nice job Pennsylvania letting 4 high school team trash your NFL football stadium field the weekend before a nationally televised Monday night football game. Good job. Nothing like watching NFL football on a field that is a total disaster and better suited for a Playboy Playmate mud wrestling match. Another classless act by the Pittsburgh Steelers organization.|||Well, I would have to say the Pittsburgh Steeler football field since it has actually had a meaningful effect on something. All Hillary has ever done is remind any man who has ever been divorced of his screeching ex-wife.
If Hillary ever got any kind of power, however, it would be a disaster on a par with the earth colliding with a rogue black hole. Certainly much worse than Heinz Field!|||Hillary|||both but the Steelers only suck in one place Hillary is a traveling show of sucking.
but I don't get that letting them play wasn't classy.
They just didn't plan, or couldn't because of the weather.
Pissubrgh still sucks and so does Hillary|||i thought you were ranting about g.w.b. there for a second, or was it bill oral'ly.|||Why are you so bitter and angry about it? LOL
Oh, I get it....you're either a Bungle or Stains fan. Sucks to be you! :)|||Hillary, the football field CAN be fixed.|||hilary....lol|||I'll say Hillary is the bigger disaster of the 2 since I don't care about politics.|||It was a mess wasn't it. Some real good thinking went into that decision.|||Actually, I think that letting high school teams play in your stadium as well as a college team is pretty classy. Think about how excited those kids were. The issue was the rain, and how they need to put some sort of artificial field down in Pitt. Classless would have been to say that the kids can't play because of the weather report.|||It's a tradition for the high school football teams to play in the stadium. It's a really big deal to get that far, so I doubt the Steelers organization would say "Well we are big shot NFL players and you all look up to us, but sorry you can't play here even though it means a lot to you."
Plus, that is actually pretty selfish of you to say. Sorry that YOU had to watch a game on TV with a bad field. You didn't have to play on it... so I don't understand why you were so upset about it??
I think its a little bit far fetched to say it was a "classless act."|||Hillary; at least the field was interesting; They both had a lot of balls that stuck in them, though.|||Not that I'm a Steelers fan but the weather did play a big part in this as well.|||Okay....is this all you have in your brain?
What kind of football do you like? Pansy 80 degree weather all season long?
And it's really too bad you can't vote for George again. He's doing such a great job.|||The field was a mess, I agree ... BUT
It is a very big deal to those high-school kids to play in Heinz Field. Give credit to the Steelers and the City of Pittsburgh for allowing their mega-gazillion-dollar facility to actually be USED as a sports venue, rather than reserving it for the sake of prettiness on national TV.
Not sure why you would call the Pittsburgh Steelers a "classless" organization. And very classless on your part regarding that crack about Hillary. She has more balls than you ever will.|||they both are lol...

I found a house in Monroeville just outside of Pittsburgh, PA that has been completely renovated from the Top to the bottom. Everything is brand new - roof, kitchen, bathrooms, windows, etc..
The only problem is that there is no basement. Is it a wise decision to purchase a home on a slab foundation in Monroeville?I do not plan on living in this property for the rest of my life and I have a small child. I am not sure if this will hurt the resale value. Thanks|||If something is too far out of the NORM for an area, stay away from it! It will slow down your resale when its time to sell!!
Think about it, you came on this board to pose the question to the Rabble? That answers your own question, you had to stop and think about it!!
Lacking a basement is not like changing a roof, it is waaaay too expensive a correction to make to get it in line with what is typical for an area! (Incurable Obsolescence)|||Personally, a basement is the first thing I look for in a listing. If there is no basement, I move on to the next listing. A basement is free room to grow. Finishing a basement is A LOT cheaper than putting an addition on a home. But, there are plenty of people who are not concerned if they have a basement.
Lets say the vikings moved to Pittsburgh and became the Maulers and shared Heinz field with the Steelers. Do you think that after a while they would have fan support?|||No way.
I have been to PA with my dad for his buisness trip once. During football season. Wow, the locals are INSANLEY obsessed with the Steelers. I think they wouldn't support a second NFL team. They seem to in love with the Steelers. Support is good I guess.|||Steeler fans are the ultimate untested, fair weather band wagon fans.
Unlike all other team in pro football, the Steeler fans have never had to prove their loyalty in tough times because there haven't been tough times in 40 years. The absolute worst the Steelers have done is 6-10 in 1988. That was a long time ago and if 6-10 is your idea of a disastrous season, then you have no clue and you need to have a serious talk with a Bengals, Lions, or Bill fan.
Sure, even though Pittsburgh is one of the smallest markets, they could support two teams - as long as the Maulers won. However, if the Maulers lost and lost a lot, Pittsburgh fans would stay away in droves. They don't know how to lose is Pittsburgh. Look at their support for the Pirates. I suspect that they are really the worst fans in football because they have never had to prove their worth as fans and frankly, I bet most of them are simply along for the easy ride and the reflected glory.
Until the day comes that Steelers "fans" stick by their team through prolonged tough times, then they are the worst bandwagon fans in existance to me.|||No. The Steelers seem to be the dominant team in PA, along with the Eagles. I don't think fans would flock to see another team in the same area, because it seems to me the team has been and is successful. Fans are loyal to their base, and I think the majority of football fans in Pittsburgh are loyal to the Steelers. Do you really think that fans would support another team just after the Steelers were in the super bowl? I don't think so. Also, I don't think the Steelers would share a field with anyone. Sharing the field with another team isn't exactly the best thing. Why would the Steelers of all franchises share their legendary field with another team? I just can't see it.|||Wow do you really like Heinz could possibly support that? They'd be stuck on astroturf if they tried, they already have Pitt playing there as well as the Steelers. No Pittsburgh wouldn't support them. The ONLY reason that New York has two teams is because the one is an original AFL Franchise as well. the NFL wouldn't put them both there like that, let alone see both actually have a following the way they do.|||I don't think so. Few cities could support two teams really. Sure, New York can, but there are over 20 million people in the metro area. Pittsburgh? 2.5. There just isn't the population. Plus, the Steelers would always over-shadow any other team.|||They have the amount of people to do so, HOWEVER there is not a chance it would survive or be accepted by Steelers fans. We live and die as Steelers fans, period.|||It would be like the Lakers and Clippers. One team has great history and wins and the other is horrid and has no fan support becuase of the other team always contending|||hmmm...I would prob say no. Because I think because they've been so dominant, and have such a big fan-base, it would be very hard to have another team. . .|||No. Pittsburgh is Steeler Country. I just realized that the 1972 Dolphins, who went 14-0 during the regular season, had to play the AFC Championship game *in* Pittsburgh--who were 11-3 that season. Why weren't the Dolphins the top-seeded team? Did they have different rules for determining home-field back then?|||In that era, there was no such thing as "homefield advantage", the home team was determined by who's turn it was to host the game. During that time under the rotation system, whomever hosted the wild-card team in the divisional playoff (as determined by rotation, not W-L record) was guaranteed to play on the road in the conference championship game. The winner of the game between the other two division champs was guaranteed to host the conference championship.|||I think the Dolphins were 13-0 during the regular season; why would they only play 2 playoff games?
In any case i have no answer for this other than weather.|||Back then the site of the conference championship games rotated from division to division, and that year was the Central division's turn. They didn't decide it by the won loss records.|||bencas99 is 100% correct..the rules were stupid back then|||Wow. I'm heading to Mellon Arena, but I will probably get to Pittsburgh early. Does anyone know of some bars or restaurants that are close to Mellon Arena? I don't want to drive around the city much, something in walking distance would be best, got to beer up before the game!|||Of course, it depends what you like to do, but I can offer a suggestion of what I would do. If you're talking about the evening games, which usually start at 7, then you might want to go to The Souper Bowl on Fifth Avenue. If you want some food go to Carlton restaurant. The owner's name (if you want to ask to sound important is Kevin Joyce).
why did Pittsburgh develop into an early center of U.S. steel production? What are the raw materials and human factors that influence the locations of steelmaking?|||The three basic ingredients in making steel are coal (to make coke), iron ore and limestone. Western PA has local coal and limestone. Iron ore was easy to ship via the Great Lakes and then train to Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh also has a good location and good transportation (Ohio River) and it used to have the labor force to do the job.
The most important human factor was Andrew Carnegie. He built Pittsburgh's Carnegie Steel Company, which was later merged with Elbert H. Gary's Federal Steel Company and several smaller companies to create U.S. Steel.

I have a 20 yr old daughter looking to move into an apt around Penn St in downtown Pittsburgh. I would like to know if that is a nice area, is it safe, what kind of things go on in the neighborhood, etc. Any help is much appreciated!|||Penn St, or Penn Ave are both fairly long streets. I would check into exactly what part of town it's in, what neighborhood... For Pittsburgh, "good" and "bad" streets can be right beside each other. However, there has also been a fairly strong movement towards younger professionals strengthening parts of town. Overall the city is fairly managable and fairly safe.|||I'm assuming that you mean Penn Avenue, which is several miles long. And if you do mean downtown then it is a very nice area. That is actually the city's theater district and it's a very nice part of town. There are obviously a lot of theaters, but also restaurants, art galleries, and a nearby subway stop. All of Downtown is very safe but this is probably the safest. It's well lighted. Filled with public art. Tree lined sidewalks. And this is the are where downtown's only full service grocery store will be opening.

there was some bangin' goin on tonight... especially by Kunitz... do you think his line will get more room in game 7?
Also... is cycling and passing behind the net and cutting across the slot the best way to beat the wing lock in Pittsburgh's case?... or can the D contribute to the offense? ... it is a game 7.
thoughts?|||I think in Pittsburgh's case the dump, chase, and cycle has been by far their most effective game plan. As long as they continue to win some of the races to the corners, they will be able to generate chances. However, I have noticed that if they try throwing the puck directly to the front of the net off the cycle, there is typically a Wing just waiting for eat. keep feeding the slots in the cycle and they will continue to get opportunities.
Unfortunately, it seems that the best bet is to keep the D at home and sometimes maybe let them pinch along the boards but drop another winger back in his place. The Wings are so quick to turn a mistake into a rush, you simply cant afford to risk the odd man rushes b/c of the D trying to get too aggressive.|||no|||Pitts just needs to keep paying the refs to look the other way in order for them to win game 7. They just don't have enough talent or dignity to do the job like professional players.

If you move slightly out of the city, the price goes down-- a little. One bedrooms can be found for 400-550, and two bedrooms can be found for 600-800.
Obviously, you can get luxury apartments downtown for a lot more-- but a good estimate is 600 for a decent 1 bedroom, 800 for a decent 2 bedroom.
Good luck!|||about 190- 310 a month|||could always check on craigslist -- brb -- http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/apa/|||This is a handy website that offers rental info on areas. It is similar to Zillow.com.

Will be in Pittsburgh for game 1 this Saturday for Stanley Cup finals. Looking for a fun place to watch the game. Thanks for your help.|||Rick's Sportsbar in Delmont. Its like a half hour or forty minutes away from Pittsburgh. They have like 100 tvs with flat screens at every table and usually for a game you would probably want to get there like an hour or so before because it fills up quickly.|||Permanti Brothers is the place to be during a Pens games. Its the place that Pittsburgers love to go during all games.|||Casey's draft house in the South Side.
there is a midget that lives at the end of the bar who comes out and pours liquor in your mouth.

My wife and I are debating on whether to expose our daughter, 2yrs old, to the modeling world. We live in the Pittsburgh area and have only ever heard of The Talent Group as a modeling agency. Has anyone had experience with them?|||Rather a coincidence, but, I found your post while also looking into modeling for my 8 yr old son in Pittsburgh. So far, I have found nothing negative as of yet about The Talent Group.
I have found a lot of negative reports on John Casablanca.
I hope someone with experience with The Talent Group responds, as I am curious also.
I checked with BBB and they do have an A rating with no complaints in 3 years, but, they are not BBB accredited.|||There are only 2 legitimate modeling agencies in Pittsburgh: The Talent Group and Docherty. Anything else you will find will either be a modeling school, modeling classes, or something that will cost you a great deal of money. You have to beware of scams like John Casablanca's, Model Search America, and other things that are just teaching girls to do makeup & take pictures.
That being said, The Talent Group standards are brutal. It's not a kind industry, and I found people at both agencies that I thought were very intense. I was a teenage model, and was 5'8 and 108 pounds. I was 10 pounds under the healthy BMI limit - and The Talent Group told me I was too heavy. They did sign me, but insisted I get new photographs taken to make myself look less heavy. At the same time, teachers of mine were worried that I had an eating disorder. So I do believe The Talent Group has a distorted view. I wasn't the only person who had this experience with them. I met other girls who were overly criticized too.
Docherty I only worked with as a boutique owner, and not as a model. They had some beautiful models, very diverse. I enjoyed working with them, although they did not follow up & give me the photo's that they were to give me for advertising purposes. I lent them clothes for the shoot. I contacted them, but never got my photos or heard from them again. So I don't have much to say for their work ethic, but I can't say anything bad about the standard of models there. I hear more about Docherty in the industry than I do The Talent Group, so that is where I would start first. I think they book more jobs. My sister took her 3 year old son there, but because he was too hyper, he was turned down. At 5 years old, she sent in more photos but was turned down via letter in the mail. It's a tough agency to get into, so don't get discouraged if it doesn't go the way you hope.
Child modeling is obviously very different, and hopefully less critical, than teenage modeling was. I would send a few photos to both agencies & see what kind of feedback you receive. If they like the photos, they will call you in for an interview with your daughter. Once you meet them, you can think about what kinds of vibes you got from both places & make the decision that's best for your daughter. Best of luck =-)
